DVD Mini-Scandal

The website TV Shows on DVD has reported that season 4 of The Office will go on sale Tuesday, September 2 and will retail at $49.99. Does this seem too much? A poster at Office Tally thinks so... I mean, really, the season was stunted by the strike and all the outtakes are available on NBC.com. What are your thoughts on the subject?

  1. Honestly, nobody buys DVDs for their "List Price" anyway. I, for one, always go to Amazon or Best Buy when it's on sale, and usually end up spending $20-$30 for a season of TV.

Yes, this season was shorter than normal, but keep in mind that season 1 was only 6 episodes long, and it sells for about $20 in stores.

  2. Good point, Timothy, about the asking price of $20 for season 1.

Also, NBC ordered 30 half-hour episodes for season 4 with 10 of them slated to be combined as hour-long episodes. Only 19 "half-hour" episodes aired, although ten of them were used to create the 5 hour long episodes. So, in my mind, while viewers missed out on a number of episodes due to the strike, we were still treated to almost a full season (by today's standards of 22 episodes for a sitcom).

That said, I still don't want to pay a SRP of $49.99 for the shortened season.

  3. That's a good point too.

Also, they usually pack a good bit of extra features on the DVDs. I'm hoping for a feature about the Office Convention, but that probably won't happen. Who knows.

  4. I think it should be at least 10 or 20 bucks cheaper but I'll still buy it. Hopefully they do something like they had last year with special stuff included with the DVD.

  5. Unfortunately, I'll buy it no matter what. I have one of those OCD/DVD things going on where I can't NOT have a part of a set. Because of that, I own some pretty bad movies (Matrix Revolutions, anyone?). At least this one will be really great stuff... just not a lot of it!
