Best episode of The Office in a long time. I normally save my comments about the episode until the end of the Recap & Review, but I couldn’t help myself today. I have been kind of disappointed in the quality of humor being displayed this season and last season. There have been funny moments, don’t get me wrong, but the funny hasn’t been as consistent like the first few seasons.

Tonight we find humor in the form of a good old fashion duel. Mano-a-mano. Dwight vs. Andy. The prize? The love of Angela. Anyone else want to get in on this? Anyone other than Meredith?

Oscar and Ed Talk About Fights

Amy Ryan Is Returning!!!

From Entertainment Weekly:

"I'm fairly certain this calls for a Hallefreakinglujah!

Greg Daniels, the big boss behind The Office, just confirmed for me exclusively the best news ever: Amy Ryan will be reprising her spectacularly popular role as Holly Flax, soul mate to Steve Carrel's Michael.

"She will come back," says Daniels. "We haven't written it yet, but we're discussing her coming back for the season finale. We're hoping she'll be available."

Daniels went on to say that he's "very open" to working out a more permanent Office arrangement with Ryan. "Because [Michael and Holly] have such a deep connection, I don't think she can blow in and out every so often," he explains. "It would be too hard for him as a human being. So, we're hoping to find some very significant things for them. And if we can get her to sign on for a really long period, we'll do it."

WOOHOO!!!

Greg Daniels Says Real Spinoff Could Still Happen

From Entertainment Weekly:

Executive Producer Greg Daniels continues to be responsible for The Office, and he is penning the new Amy Poehler comedy with SNL vet Michael Schur for NBC. But he's not ruling out the possibility of an Office spinoff sometime in the near future. The Poehler project was originally thought to be a Office spinoff until Daniels and Schur took it in a different direction and developed it as a mockumentary about small-town government. But Daniels hasn't closed the door on expanding the Dunder-Mifflin family.

"It's not possible, physically, for me to be involved in it right this second, but I'm talking to people over at The Office about another idea, and [The Office's British creator] Stephen Merchant came back and directed an episode of The Office so were were talking about the idea," Daniels told critics at NBC's annual Television Critics Tour on Thursday. "It's possible that some combination of other Office people could produce it without my giving blood for it."

Daniels' untitled Poehler project, which also stars Rashida Jones, will debut April 9.

Season Six Is A Go!!

From NBC's Official Announcements Today...

NBC has renewed the popular series "The Office," "30 Rock" and "The Biggest Loser" each for an additional year through the 2009-2010 season, it was announced today by Angela Bromstad, President, Primetime Entertainment, NBC and Universal Media Studios, and Paul Telegdy, Executive Vice President, Alternative Programming, NBC and Universal Media Studios.

"These renewals represent our faith in 'The Office' and '30 Rock' as they continue to represent the gold standard in acclaimed and award-winning series," said Bromstad. "We want the devoted fans of these series to know that we are thrilled that these quality programs will be back with the same high-caliber episodes that viewers have come to expect."

"The Office" is the season's #1 comedy in adults 18-34 and is tied for the #2 ranking overall, according to "most current" averages from Nielsen Media Research through the season's opening 16 weeks. The acclaimed fifth-season comedy also has the most upscale audience for a primetime series on any broadcast networks in terms of its concentration of adults 18-49 living in homes with $100,000-plus incomes. "The Office" is averaging a 4.9 rating, 12 share among adults 18-49, a 5.8/15 among adults 18-34 and 9.4 million viewers overall. .

More Amy Poehler Show Details...

From NBC's Official Announcements today...

"The Untitled Daniels/Schur/Poehler Series" (working title) -- from Emmy Award-winning executive producers Greg Daniels (NBC's "The Office," "King of the Hill") and Michael Schur ("The Office, "Saturday Night Live") -- is a new mockumentary that looks at the exciting world of local government.

The documentary cameras follow Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler, NBC's "Saturday Night Live," "Baby Mama"), a mid-level bureaucrat in the Parks and Recreation Department of Pawnee, Indiana. In an attempt to beautify her town -- and advance her career -- Leslie takes on what should be a fairly simple project: help local nurse Ann Logan (Rashida Jones, "The Office") take on defensive bureaucrats, selfish neighbors, real estate developers, and single-issue fanatics -- whose weapons are lawsuits, the jumble of city codes, and the very democratic process that Leslie loves so much. Aziz Ansari and Aubrey Plaza also star.

The Office New Hire!

From Variety:

"Thesp Idris Elba has been cast on "The Office" as a new rival to Dunder Mifflin regional manager Michael Scott (Steve Carell).

Elba, most recently seen in Guy Ritchie's "Rocknrolla," will appear in six episodes later this season. Details are slim on his plot line, other than he'll play a no-nonsense hire at Dunder Mifflin's corporate office who will throw Michael Scott into turmoil.

NBC is expected to announce Elba's casting during the Peacock's portion of the TV Critics Assn. press tour on Thursday."

Oval Office May Push The Office!!

From Variety:

President George Bush wants a final 15 minutes from the Big Four nets on Thursday.

The White House on Monday asked ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC for 10-15 minutes of primetime airtime for a live farewell address to the nation. It would be Bush's last public appearance until he greets President-elect Barack Obama at the inauguration on Jan. 20, the Associated Press reported.

The nets were officially noncommittal as of late Monday, but it seems likely that most, if not all, will grant the request, although some may argue that the address may not be especially newsworthy and will have plenty of coverage on cable and other outlets.

If the address sticks with tradition and goes at 9 p.m. ET, it would preempt or delay in East Coast markets tentpole shows including ABC's "Grey's Anatomy," NBC's "The Office" and CBS' "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation."
