Even Dwight Schrute, Dunder Mifflin's #1 paper salesman from NBC's hit show "The Office," would be impressed with this sales performance. The NBC Universal Store has sold more than 150,000—and counting—Dwight Schrute Bobbleheads, modeled after the character portrayed by Rainn Wilson. Since hitting shelves in April 2006, the figure, whose nodding head features Dwight's signature glasses and haircut, has become the biggest seller in the eight-year history of the store.
In honor of this milestone, two very special bobbleheads autographed by Wilson will be available online for "The Office" fans to win. The first highly sought-after bobblehead, available on nbc.com/auctions, will go home with the highest bidder in an online auction. One hundred percent of the bobblehead auction's net proceeds will go to Wilson's charity of choice, the Mona Foundation, which supports children's education projects throughout the world. The item will be part of NBC's second live auction for fans to bid for exclusive props and memorabilia from other NBC Series, including "Heroes," "Friday Night Lights" and "30 Rock." The bidding begins on Monday, January 21, 2008, at 7 p.m. EST / 4 p.m. PST, with the gavel falling on Wednesday, January 30, 2008.

Other key items in the NBC auction will include several prints of paintings from NBC's hit series "Heroes," from acclaimed graphic novel artist Tim Sale ("Heroes Graphic Novel," "Batman: The Long Halloween") and a State Championship Ring from "Friday Night Lights." A complete list of items available for auction can found at www.nbc.com/auctions.
ReplyDeleteThe second autographed bobblehead will be given away in a sweepstakes (no purchase necessary) held at NBCStore.com\Dwight. Fans can sign up for a chance to win between January 21, 2008 and February 21, 2008. Both winners will also receive "The Office: Season 3" on DVD.
Greg Daniels, executive producer of "The Office," joked about the bobbleheads, "Yes, they are fun, but they also serve a business purpose. People who want to manage by consensus can buy six and keep them nodding all the time to whatever they say."
"The desire to take home a piece of 'The Office' with the Dwight bobblehead has exceeded all of our expectations," said Judith Dutch, vice president, retail operations and consumer marketing, NBC Universal. "We're very excited to offer these extremely rare prizes to the devoted 'Office' viewers and NBCStore.com visitors. This is a great example of how the NBC Universal Store goes far beyond conventional merchandise to provide fun and unique experiences for fans to connect with their favorite NBC Universal shows."
The bobblehead debuted as a prop in the Valentine's Day episode of "The Office" on February 9, 2006. Shortly after the episode aired, fans circulated an online petition insisting that the NBC store sell the bobblehead. Responding to viewers' demand, 4,000 figures were initially created, but sold-out almost immediately and have been the most popular item for the store since. The item has been so popular that NBC created a dedicated web page, www.nbc.com/The_Office/bobblehead, where bobblehead fans can share their enthusiasm, and view and upload pictures of their "Adventures with Dwight" from all over the world.
Dwight Schrute bobbleheads are available for $19.00 at the NBC Experience Store in Rockefeller Center or online at www.nbcuniversalstore.com.
